Working with some people on the topic of Talent & Career Development…. I have many years experience with many different organisations. And I have come to the conclusion that the main holder of responsibility for Career Development is THE INDIVIDUAL.
If you don’t care about, prepare for, invest in your own career development then don’t complain if someone else gets the raise or promotion.
If you do invest and if the organisation doesn’t recognise all your time and effort then look for another organisation.
Of course the organisation must also fulfil their responsibility…. provide formal and informal development opportunities. But you can only lead the horse to water….
